NeuHarmony, LLC is dedicated to helping those with substance abuse challenges/addictions and/or those with contributing factors such as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other diagnoses via music therapy.
My name is Laura Bean, MT-BC, and I have a strong interest in helping to alleviate the symptoms of PTSD by utilizing music therapy. I am currently in Frederick County, MD. I would like to serve in your facility in Frederick, Carroll, Washington, or another county. Even if you are further away, contact me, and let's see if we can work something out.
My ongoing research of PTSD has taught me that PTSD changes the brain. If someone who has PTSD is not diagnosed, and thus not treated, the risk of addiction is great.
According to Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Academy (where I have taken online classes in regards to PTSD), if someone has PTSD, there is an 80% chance likelihood that this person will also have another psychiatric disorder such as depression or substance abuse issues.
This same source also states that PTSD causes a lack of flowing endocannabinoids in the brain, which marijuana does help to elevate in the short-term, but in the long-term, actually makes PTSD worse.
I have plans of conducting research projects in regards to PTSD, how it affects the brain, and how music can help alleviate the symptoms of PTSD.
I also have the strong desire to help promote the awareness of PTSD. Many reasons for addiction exist, but I find that PTSD is often overlooked, especially when it comes to those who are not associated with our military.
I love to learn instruments! I play guitar, piano, keyboard, soprano and baritone ukulele, mandolin, various percussive instruments, and am relearning the violin and trumpet, as well as learning the organ. I have the abilities to start a vocal or bell choir at your facility. I am skilled in composing, arranging, and conducting. I can also incorporate sign into some of the songs we will do as a choir.
