In my opinion, HSPs or Highly Sensitive People are at greater risk of developing some forms of mental illness, if certain supports are not in place. As children, they require a certain type of ongoing, consistent emotional support as they develop. Children are sponges, those who are highly-sensitive are super-porous sponges, absorbing everything around them, but even more deeply than many other children. They internalize much more than many others.

Expressing gratitude today, for those who serve and have served, and their families. Thank you! Sometimes, people's behavior can be described as self-destructive. Could be that they really have PTSD, or PTSD-influenced thought patterns based in trauma and/or neglect. Other mental health issues could also be possible contributors.
